Hamilton fencing firm Gallagher is marking 75 years in business today.

To celebrate, Sir William Gallagher will unveil a statue of Captain John Charles Hamilton, which has been gifted to the company as a present.

Captain Hamilton was killed in the battle of Gate Pa, in what is now the southern suburbs of Tauranga.

The Kirikiriroa settlement was named after him, and became the modern Hamilton City.
