Accredited Visiting Service (AVS)

The Age Concern Hamilton Accredited Visiting Service provides companionship and support for older people who may be lonely and socially isolated. A number of older people in our community, for various reasons, spend most of each day of each week alone.



WHAT A DIFFERENCE SOME COMPANY CAN MAKE?

This service works to decrease the level of social isolation and loneliness of older people in the community. We provide a trained, caring volunteer who will visit regular for companionship and friendship.

» Are you an older person finding it difficult to get out and about?

» Do you have some spare time and would like to become a Volunteer Visitor?


Age Concern Hamilton provides visiting services to central Hamilton and rural areas with over 320 visitors visiting older people in their homes every week. as a Volunteer Visitor you would enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of an older person, complement existing services and offer them the opportunity of building new links in the community. The visitor spends exclusive quality time with their older person on a regular basis.


DO YOU HAVE ONE HOUR A WEEK TO SPARE?

Would you like to become a Volunteer Visitor, or would you like a regular visit from AVS. We have older people waiting for that special someone to call.

  • Good communication skills
  • Respect for confidentiality
  • Ability to work co-operatively within the Age Concern boundaries
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness

At Age Concern Hamilton, we do:

  • Recruits and selects Volunteer Visitors
  • Conducts and referee and police checks
  • Provides initial training and ongoing support for Visitors
  • Matches a Visitor with an older person (client)
